Join award-winning writer Kathryn Burnett for an inspiring one-day workshop that immerses participants in the creative process of crafting a one-act play. Attendees will explore the transformation of a story idea into a story outline designed for the stage. Expect to learn about crafting a story and to write a lot. The workshop will feature engaging group and solo activities —from initial idea generation and pro tips on how to start your play script!

Kathryn Burnett Biography:

Kathryn is an award-winning screenwriter, playwright and writing coach. She has significant credits for stage and screen – including black comedy “Fresh Eggs”, animated series “Bird’s Eye View”, “The Brokenwood Mysteries”, “Under The Vines”, “My Life is Murder”, tele-feature “The Tender Trap”, and award-winning children’s Sci-fi drama series “The Cul de Sac.” 

Her latest play “Nicola Cheeseman is Back” premiered 2024 and enjoyed an encore season at Q Theatre in March 2025.  Her other plays include “The Campervan” and Mike & Virginia”.She was also delighted to see her first horror short story published in the award-winning horror anthology “Remains to Be Told – Dark Tales of Aotearoa”.

She won Best Script Drama at the 2021 NZTV Awards (w Riwia Brown) and shared a Best Screenplay award at the 2020 Show Me Shorts Film Festival.
